Careers

What is an RBT?

  • A Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) is a behaviour tutor that has met the credentialing standards provided by the BACB, and has an active license. The BACB is an organisation in the USA. We use the standards set here as currently, there is no UK equivalent.

Why do our staff start off on Zero Hours Contracts (ZHCs)?

  • As ABA is an expensive service to provide, and as most parents pay for services out of pocket, the reality is funds are not always reliable. We can only pay you if parents can afford to pay us. ZHCs give us this flexibility in what is currently, a very turbulent profession (that's before the pandemic).

Will I always be on a ZHC?

  • The short answer is no. The long answer is "it depends". If you pursue RBT certification and work for us for a certain amount of time, more options will become available. If you become an RBT and are wanting to get more experience, and invest in the profession, we'll invest in you!

Why is funding for ABA not provided by the education or health system?

  • Excellent question! In rare instances it is provided. However each family needs to show evidence that ABA works for their child (they ignore the 50+ years of research!). This is done via the Education Health Care Plan (EHCP). The EHCP process varies across the  whole country and usually leads to a tribunal.

Why should I work for ABA Horizons when I could be self-employed?

  • The majority of the profession are self-employed. However this leads to huge variances in both expectations and service provision, which we're looking to change.
  • As a business, we provide liability insurance, and a bunch of digital tools for our staff to make your life tutoring as easy and efficient as possible. We also do your payroll and taxes. These would all be expenses and time you would have to look after being self-employed.
  • For those looking to become supervisors/BCBAs themselves. Getting the required supervision hours can cost you as the supervisee, anywhere from £50 to £150 per hour! We charge £0 per hour. We invest our time and experience into you.

Are you experienced in working with children with SEN? Would you like specialist training to be an ABA Tutor in a small, but growing company?

Full theoretical and practical training is provided with on-going training and supervision. In addition, we provide the opportunity to pursue an excellent career path with the provision of training for progression into senior positions within the company. We will also pay for you to sit one registered behaviour technician exam. (we will cover the cost of the exam – not the BACB registration fee)

The role involves working with children within their homes, community and in school settings.
